The serial numbers do represent what the cymbals were, who made them, and when they were made. The initial information is stored here for 5 years before being discarded but we can offer you the codes of those numbers that tells the year of manufacture (via the first 2 letters of the lot number). In the event you can't acquire a receipt, we can look up your cymbal's age by the laser-etched serial number to determine if it's still under warranty. A cymbal will.

Ah.....the sound of the K Zildjian crashes from the previous era - a burst of sound that punctuates nicely but doesn't overpower everything else. Not too thick but not so thin as to be a weak sounding cymbal! If only you could travel back in time and grab one! Well, step away from the Delorean, McFly, the past is right here! For your enjoyment - an 18' K ZILDJIAN DARK CRASH THIN CYMBAL from 1999, given the serial number starting with II and still faintly bears the 'DARK CRASH THIN' block letter model designation from that era. Not considered an IAK due the serial number and corresponding year, still it has the same manufacturing techniques such as the same lathing and hammering as the IAK era Zildjians. This cymbal is in unbelievable condition, having been prized for its sound and well-cared for and obviously cleaned over its lifetime. This used cymbal has fingerprints, smudges and stickmarks and could probably stand to be polished but I am leaving that up to you. Zildjian 20' A Series Ping ride cymbal in excellent used condition. The cymbal weighs 2,720 grams and is true medium weight. Serial number is JH 5589-075. There are few very minor scratches, discoloration spots and some fingerprints on the back side that can easily be cleaned with your favorite cymbal polish. It shows very well.

The 20' A Ping ride has a medium-bright tone with a large bell and is designed to provide high-end stick definition and a clean ping sound. It is made for more modern playing environments and will cut through a loud mix while still retaining a nice musical quality. It is a great cymbal for punk, indie and classic rock music.

There can be cymbal-to-cymbal variation in the sound of a ping ride so I have included a sound file of this ping ride using 5B wooden sticks about 2' in from the edge and then striking the bell. It has a nice tone.
